best day today! Started out with a 7:30am wake up time (was supposed to be 6:30 but I gave my body a break..after all, I DID just write 3 exams in a row) Slowelyyy woke up, munched down an apple and hopped on the bus to the gym! It seems a little odd to have to transit to workout even for me..especially considering I live in the best area in Vancouver, perfect for running anywhere. I initially signed up at the Y because it sits right beside my school so I would just work out before my first class in the morning, but now I'm actually really loving it on the days off that I don't have school, and now that exams are almost thru and summer is here, 30 min isn't really that bad.. And on the off days that I don't go to the Y I make sure I run, but there's just something about having the cardio and strength training all in one place that makes it worthwhile! (Plus it helps when there's cute boys lifting weights aha)
I was feeling prretttty lazy so made it a shorter work out - then back home to shower, snack and laundry..BEAUTIFUL sun ALL day and soo warm that I got to pull out my flippy flops again :) I spent a few great hours at a coffee shop today studying actually because lately I haven't been able to focus at home. I can't believe I've lived here for almost a year now and haven't been to My Local Cafe!! (check out the pics on this linky) It smells of fresh baked bread, yummy hot foods, and they were making fresh oatmeal raisin cookies while I was there. Its a beautiful open space with wooden tables, wall plants and an amaaazing selection of freshly made foods from whole ingredients and gluten-free/vegan choices . When you walk up to buy food, basically behind the counter is where they made the food right in front of you. There's a big island where a girl with funky dreads was chopping fresh fruit and kneading dough.
As for the studying..I made some major headway. I have an anthropology exam left and a video assignment to complete to hand in on the day of. I watched 4 really interesting short talks/videos online and had to do a big write-up on them. This term has been amazing in that all my classes have opened me up a whole new world of topics and issues. Specifically in anthropology, I've been studying cultures around the world, socieites, and most recently globalization. These 4 videos look at aspects of globalization and local economic development. The one from Ted.com is the best! (http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/iqbal_quadir_says_mobiles_fight_poverty.html)
so then my wonderful roomie and I ventured out to get her some new runners at Sportchek.. I won't lie, I may have let my gaurd down thinking that if I found a dealio I would maybe treat myself..dang those sale racks! Lise walked out with a great pair of runners and I walked out with a new shirt and hoodie (BUT it all only cost me $25 ..Yeaaa discounts!) Then..we did the most funnest bestest thing EVER and went to WHOLE FOODS MARKET!! EEEE!!!! Ok...my NEW favourite hobby is grocery shopping! (@ whole foods, capers, choices market..ect) I realize these places are more exspensive..BUT, being a deal hunter, I've priced out a lot of foods, even bulk, at different health food stores and places like Safeway. Surprisingly, Whole Foods Market wasn't that pricey. A lot of items were, but there was a lot that was cheaper than Safeway and they had a way bigger selection. Just picture Superstore, but BETTER! *nerd alert here folks*
Ok, so you walk in and are bombarded with the huge produce selection.. WALLS of "bulk" fruits and veggies..im not even joking. like bulk flours and bulk candy, except theres fruits and veggies in the binss! CRAAAZEEE. isles and ISLES of everything you can imagine but waaay better..healthy, wholesome..cool choices..also, the bakery makes hundreds of different treats, tooons of gluten-free, vegan stuff too. The muffins were the size of grapefruits and they even gave Lise and I a free sample of raspberry coffee cake! mmm..Oh, did I mention they sold about 10 kinds of different fruit based maple syrups and a trillion kinds of hummus? (I'm so trying to make spinach hummus) But, I have to say, the best part of Whole Foods Market is their huuuge hot and cold bar. A buffet in the middle of a grocery store. Yes people. True story. Tons of amazinggggg salads, pastas, meats, tofus, wraps, stir-frys, cheeses, fruits, entrees..i was DROOLING. good thing we had dinner alrready (see pic below! :)) and they even had a cute food lounge with comfy seating and wi-fi! (Ok, so you may find me there tomorrow eating lunch and studying...hehe) Unfortunately I didn't have my cameraski to document this wonderful trip..but L got some pretty flowers and we documented the love @ home !
and, to finish the night off, we watched UP! ..I'll admit, I'm not a fan of animated movies very often but this movie wrenches your heart and makes you laugh all in one minute.. haha one of my fav parts of this movie when the old man wakes up and comes down the stairs on an electronic slidey chair to classical music, and his little cane made out of tennis balls :p
but of course, it wasn't complete without a hot bath (i'm sensing a cold coming on..:( ) aannd as I lounge on my bed in my oversized cotton shirt, I am utterly content. Wow, if you've read this far, thank you. Hah, hope I didn't waste an hour of your time! Its off to bed now for an early wake up!

I had to view and compare their positive and negative portraits of globalization, the 'top-down' versus 'bottom-up' approaches, and the role of local innovation in making them successful. I had to discuess these approaches, and talk about their emphasis on business and entrepreneurship.
from TED.com, an AMAZING resource of information with engaging speakers.. (http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/iqbal_quadir_says_mobiles_fight_poverty.html)
I recommmend this next one..totally opened my eyes to an important issue I had no knowledge of previously! Ship Breaking in Bangladesh
This one shows the benefits of microloans and how they are changing developing countries! The World Bank - Village Phone Nigeria
I even had time today to pick up my paycheque and grab coffee with a friend. Time is never wasted when catching up over java and a walk to the beach.
also, I had some great devo time today..I'm using this devotional called SOLO, and its written by Eugene Peterson, the same guy who translated the Bible to the Message. Today was called "Living in His Presence". So what I needed to read today.. It was Deuteronomy 10 where Moses is talking to the Isrealites and tells them what God expects them to do: To live in His HOLEY REVERENCE. (to me this is a breath of fresh air..I can just hear God whispering to me..live in me, I'm sitting right beside you!) ..He goes on to say: Follow the road He has set out for you, love Him. Serve your God with everything you have in you.. And then he tells them to look around and everything they see, is what God made. I love it. I need to do that more often.
